RESULTS: I took the plunge and actually drove as opposed to flew this year to the Grand Nationals. My sweet daughter, Bridget, could not make it with me this year due to her school studies and was missed.
Even though it was a long 3 day drive from Southern California to Lincoln, Nebraska, the scenery along the way was, at times, breathtaking. I drove with Sergio and Leanne Perezcano to the Grand Nationals (it was their first time) and we had lots of laughs and ate like royalty during our trip. They were the BEST friends to travel with, we listened to great music, ate, ate and ate some more. They packed three different kinds of sandwiches and more "healthy" snacks that you can imagine. We basically stopped for fuel and kept on going until we could drive no further, found a motel and enjoyed a well needed sleep to start all over again the next day.
I took 4 llamas to show this year, namely, WINS Yodelayheehoo (who placed 6th place Top Six Suri Female), WINS Premonition (who placed 5th place, Top Five Suri Male), GC's Peach Delight (who placed 1st and Grand National Class Champion Light Wool Juvenile female) and Jo See ABSR (who placed 5th place, Top Five Medium Wool Female). This was the first time that I entered the Adult Showmanship class at the National level and there was great competition all around her. The three judges scored me, as follows: Mark Smith placed me 1st, Phil Feiner placed me 2nd and Danielle Wagoner placed me 7th). It was a fun class and placing 3rd out of all of these remarkable showpersons was rewarding.
Over and above my own animals, I had the luxury of being able to show more Winsome Llamas for their new owners. WINS SiSpray (owned by Russ & Susan Lewis) placed as impressive 2nd place (out of a class of 28), Top Two, and was named the Grand National Reserve Class Champion Medium Wool Juvenile Female. WINS Torche'D (owned by Sergio & Leanne Perezcano) placed an impressive 1st place and was named the Grand National Class Champion Medium Wool Yearling Male. Carrizma (owned by Sergio & Leanne Perezcano) placed 2nd placed, Top Two, and was awarded the Grand National Reserve Class Champion Medium Wool Yearling Male. Congratulations to you all!
On the long journey home from Nebraska to Southern California, we stopped by McRoberts Game Farm in Nebraska and stayed the night with Jerry and Barb. We had a blast! From the wine to the llamas and a tour of their game farm, we definitely will be visiting them again in 2008 for a longer stay. It was a treat and a pleasure to spend time with these wonderful people.
In contining with our drive home, the drive through the Colorado Rockies was breathtaking and a first for me. It's a place that everyone must visit in their lives, just around every corner when you though the scenery couldn't be more beautiful, there was another.
See you in 2008 and may your journey be safe. (Our 2007 trip and llama photos are reflected below)
